Do-It-Yourself (DIY) projects have become the “in thing.” Besides learning to build and fix things, you can also master new hobbies. For example, you could teach yourself violin. Here are some tips to combine lessons and practices into super-duper DIY practices sessions.
1. Locate a location. The most important factor when selecting a place to practice your instrument is that the room is quiet. Shut all the doors and windows. Turn off all TVs and music players. Use an answering machine or voicemail to take incoming calls. Using a quiet practice area will allow you to focus on the task at hand, thus making your session more efficient.
2. Find the (right) time. While practicing is important, when you teach yourself violin you should also determine the best time to practice. This could be in the morning, afternoon, or evening. It could be at noontime or midnight. You could even break up your daily practice time into two sessions. Basically, find the best time for you to practice, and then stick to that schedule. Try to practice five or six days weekly.
3. Wear comfortable clothes. Avoid wearing clothing that’s overly tight, or attire that makes you too warm or cold. It’s important that you have full range of motion while playing violins. Also, it’s really difficult to play violins if you’re shivering or have passed out due to heat exhaustion.
4. Gather your materials beforehand. Remember that “organization is the key to quick thinking.” So before you practice your instrument, get all the materials you need. This should include:
- chair (optional)
- instrument
- music stand
- pencil
- written music
